Doctor, PanceFormer, Designer

I have a bachelor's degree in art.

Why be a dentist?

I love jokes. I have seen people that are so unhappy with their teeth that they won't even smile to laugh at jokes. I think giving someone the power to smile is like the key to all jokes. I am honored to have the privilege to help people with their health and well being.
How did I get here?
When I was 12 I started crocheting hats. I got decent at it and one of my friends wanted to buy one. I asked how much he would buy it for and he told me $20. It took me 9 hours to make the hat and the yarn cost me $16 so i figured I would make a $4 profit which was enough to buy a full size hoagie at Hoagie Haven at the time. I figured that would be enough to eat for lunch and dinner, or I could do what my Mom did because she bought me the yarn. Then one day I could buy my kid yarn and they would have the same realization. That was the day I decided I was interested in becoming a dentist. Since that day I oriented my education in a way that I thought would prepare me to become a dentist. In my undergraduate education I completed a studio art major with an art history minor focused in Japanese art history (which lead to extensive traveling in Japan and a unique cultural appreciation for my moral compass Dragon Ball). I focused all my studio coursework to have direct correlation to the type of hand skills required to be a dentist. Over the course of my college education I found interest in screen printing which eventually turned into cutting and sewing custom clothing. Between the time I graduated from my undergraduate program in southern California ('13) and started my dental program in Arizona ('15) I started a clothing business (Pance News), met the love of my life (Joyce Kawalchuk LAC fellow panceformer), and met my Hawaiian Sumo Champion brother from another mother (Konishiki Yasokichi). Upon graduating from dental school ('19) I joined private practice with my mom (Dr. Lekha Tull) at our newly rebranded dental practice DenTull, I launched a clothing line Sumo Stomp Threads with my big bro (Koni), and I built Pance News Headquarters official studio with my partner for life (Joyce). I currently live in Princeton, NJ. I drive a small electric car with no doors covered in Dragon Ball and One Piece stickers, and I wake up every day to make people smile. Join me on my adventure to become King of the Otaku! (KaizJohku)

My Greatest Creation

Johku's Lair

Located in Princeton New Jersey in my home, I created the ultimate space to perpetuate my creativity. At heart I truly am a pirate (Redeye Shankem' Jankem) - as such I have collected spoils from my many adventures around the world. My treasures can be found in my lair on display. At the deep end of my lair I have created an interactive installation experience which I refer to as my Dragon Ball shrine. Prayers and fortunes exist in a display inhabited by highly articulated figures illuminated by color shifting LEDs. I spend time in this space culminating ideas for my future projects, artistic endeavors, and self reflecting.
